‘You will receive the power of the Holy Spirit which will come on you. And then you will be my witnesses…’
Acts 1:8
Confirmation marks the point in the Christian journey when we affirm for ourselves the faith into which they have been baptised (usually as a baby), and our intention to live the rest of our lives as a follower of Jesus. This step is confirmed through prayer, anointing with holy oil and laying on of hands by the bishop. Once someone has been Confirmed, they are considered to be full members of the Church of England and are welcome to receive Holy Communion in any Anglican church.
If you or your child are interested in being Confirmed, please contact the Rector to find out more. There are usually several weeks of preparation leading up to this special occasion. The Confirmation service itself is led by a bishop; St Leonard’s is a part of the South Lambeth Deanery and the annual Confirmation service is usually held in one of the Churches of the Deanery or at Southwark Cathedral.
